The history of the "Theatriums"
The reopening of the municipal theatre following extensive renovations in 1977 was how the "Theatriums" (Theatre and atrium = open air) originally came about.
Grilled sausages, beer, artistic intermezzos such as an auction of fabulous props and costumes from the Hesse state theatre provided the entertainment for the very first festival.
The people of Wiesbaden loved the idea. Over the years Wiesbaden's
gourmet & event specialist Hans-Peter Wodarz knew just how to develop this gourmet and entertainment event.
The former chef of the "Ente” soon gained a huge amount of support for this attractive concept.
Wiesbaden has long enjoyed a reputation for its "savoir vivre” and exciting "joie de vivre” and the festival has proved the ideal opportunity to experience this all first hand.
Soon the Wilhelmstraße became an annual rendezvous each June for anyone who is anyone whilst everyone present enjoyed some exquisite sparkling wines and fabulous culinary delicacies with unfettered delight.
The legendary "Ente vom Lehel” restaurant has delivered the duck appetizers, the lobster and the oysters that guests have enjoyed with relish set against the backdrop of the elegant "Nassauer Hof” hotel. It was not long before the Wiesbaden street festival became known as a rendezvous for the famous, the rich and the beautiful.
